Position Overview:

The Veterinary Technicians at Tufts University’s Hospital for Large Animals are skilled in managing a diverse range of species, primarily focusing on equine patients while also providing care for alpacas, goats, and pigs. Incentive: This position is eligible for a $2,000 sign-on bonus upon successful completion of six months of employment for newly hired staff.

Key Responsibilities:

The Veterinary Technician I is tasked with delivering high-quality nursing care and treatment to patients across Internal Medicine, General Diagnostics, Surgery Services, and Sports Medicine Services, as directed by clinicians or supervising technicians. As a vital team member, this role involves:

  • Assisting fellow technicians in executing daily patient management plans, which encompass inpatient care and treatment.
  • Providing technical support to clinicians and students.
  • Offering guidance and instruction to students on rotation.
  • Assisting with routine and emergency admissions and discharges.

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

  • Proficiency in large animal handling.
  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Familiarity with computer systems and Electronic Medical Records.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Veterinary Technician or eligibility to sit for the VTNE.
  • Degree in Veterinary Technology, Veterinary Science, or Animal Science from an accredited institution.
  • Vocational/Technical training or an Associate/Bachelor’s Degree with two or more years of experience is preferred.

Work Schedule:

This position operates on a fixed four-day workweek, including one on-call shift weekly. The schedule includes Tuesday and Wednesday from 3 PM to 11 PM, Thursday from 11 PM to 7 AM, and Friday from 11 AM to 11 PM (into Saturday), along with one eight-hour on-call shift per week after training.

This role is deemed essential, requiring attendance during emergency closures and University Holidays.
