JOB TITLE: Special Education Teacher for Autism

TO WHOM RESPONSIBLE: School Principal and Director of Special Education

FUNDING SOURCE: General Current
SALARY: Compensation based on experience and educational qualifications, along with a competitive benefits package.

EFFECTIVE DATE: Upon board approval

QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate must demonstrate the following qualifications:
  • Valid certification in the relevant area.
  • Strong academic foundation.
  • Ability to foster a stimulating and engaging learning environment.
  • Proficient in employing diverse teaching strategies to cater to students with varying abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience in planning lessons tailored to meet diverse student needs.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret assessment data to enhance student learning.
  • Knowledge of effective educational practices relevant to the position.
  • Capacity to collaborate with administration, staff, students, and the community.
  • Understanding of curriculum concepts in the subject area.
  • Ability to promote positive student behavior and classroom management.
  • Familiarity with technology and its application in education.
  • A combination of training and experience that supports successful employment in this role.

FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
  1. Curriculum Development:
    • Adhere to state-required curricula.
    • Demonstrate up-to-date knowledge in the subject area.
    • Create lessons aligned with instructional goals.
    • Utilize various instructional methods to enhance student achievement.
    • Plan lessons based on content scope and sequence.
  2. Classroom Environment:
    • Establish a conducive learning atmosphere.
    • Implement school discipline procedures effectively.
    • Encourage student attendance and participation.
    • Set high expectations for student performance.
    • Recognize and celebrate individual student achievements.
    • Ensure fair treatment of all students.
    • Accommodate diverse learning needs.
    • Maintain open communication with parents.
  3. Instructional Management:
    • Organize teaching strategies to maximize instructional time.
    • Prepare and execute lesson plans effectively.
    • Engage students with relevant examples and demonstrations.
    • Assign appropriate tasks for student development.
    • Facilitate transitions between activities smoothly.
  4. Student Assessment:
    • Monitor and evaluate student progress.
    • Maintain accurate student records.
    • Provide constructive feedback on student work.
  5. Communication:
    • Engage with students, parents, and educational personnel effectively.
    • Follow confidentiality protocols regarding student information.
  6. Professional Conduct:
    • Exhibit professional responsibilities in attendance and communication.
    • Participate in professional development activities.
