Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant II to join our team at Mount Sinai Hospital in Hewlett, NY. As a Medical Assistant II, you will provide clinical office support to physicians and surgeons, and perform patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical support to physicians and surgeons, including accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms and assisting with patient care and administrative duties.
  • Perform patient care responsibilities, including checking schedules and organizing patient flow, taking vital signs, and relaying instructions to patients and families.
  • Assist with various procedures, including taking blood samples and preparing patients for exams.
  • Fulfill clerical responsibilities, including sending and receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, and completing forms and requisitions as needed.
  • Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system and prepare prescription refill requests for physician review and approval.
  • Inventory, order, and restock medical supplies as applicable.
  • Provide set-up of examination rooms and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques established by hospital and infection control policies.
  • Maintain logging systems for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, and sterilization processes.
  • Check expiration dates on medications and medical supplies and dispose of them appropriately according to institution policy.
  • Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.
  • Assist in the maintenance of medical charts, including filing, op reports, test results, and home care forms.
  • May schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator to verify times with patients, prepare charts, pre-admissions, and consent forms as necessary.
  • May perform proficient phlebotomy duties and appointment scheduling and registration for patients, as well as updating patient demographic and insurance information.
  • May maintain, adjust, and confirm patient office schedules and check and verify and update insurance information using internal or web sources.
  • May perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary and mentor less experienced Medical Assistant staff.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • 2+ years as Medical Assistant.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant from an approved school or equivalent training and experience.
