JOB DESCRIPTION:

*This position is eligible for a one-time signing bonus for certified first-year employees.

Fosters a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning and personal development for students requiring specialized educational services. Establishes strong connections with students, encouraging them to cultivate the skills, attitudes, and knowledge necessary for responsible citizenship in alignment with their individual capabilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborates with educators, administrators, guardians, school and agency counselors, and related service providers to assist students needing special education support.
  • Contributes to the formulation and execution of individual education and transition plans for students in the educational environment.
  • Guides students through a tailored curriculum that meets established objectives and prepares them to achieve grade-level benchmarks.
  • Instructs students in civic responsibilities and fundamental subjects as mandated by state regulations and the policies of the educational institution.
  • Partners with the lead teacher to create lesson plans and supplementary resources that align with curriculum standards; delivers personalized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Transforms lesson plans into engaging learning experiences that maximize instructional time and actively involve students.
  • Assesses students' academic and social progress, prepares report cards, and maintains accurate records, including attendance and other necessary documentation.
  • Maintains regular communication with parents or guardians through meetings and other methods to discuss student achievements and areas needing attention.
  • Supervises and monitors student movement, assisting them in navigating to resources, restrooms, buses, cafeteria, and other activities within the facility.
  • Administers standardized assessments.
  • Utilizes current technology for instructional and management purposes.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
  • Establishes and upholds standards of student behavior essential for a productive learning environment by promoting positive reinforcement of acceptable behaviors and addressing inappropriate behaviors.
  • Demonstrates nondiscriminatory practices in all professional activities.
  • Ability to compile and analyze data, and interpret relevant laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Exhibits effective oral and written communication skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Alabama Professional Certificate.
  • Must comply with Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) federal and state requirements or demonstrate a willingness to meet these standards.
