Job Objective:
- To assist the special education services instructor in delivering instructional and support services to students with disabilities.
- Associate's degree or 48 semester hours from an accredited institution or a passing score on the ACT WorkKeys Assessment.
- Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under applicable child protection laws.
- Willingness to work in a demanding and dynamic environment.
- Proficient in both oral and written communication with students, parents, and other stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills, emphasizing effective communication and collaboration with diverse groups.
- Capable of following verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Physical capability to perform job responsibilities, including strength, agility, and mobility.
- Proficient in using technology for communication, data management, and report generation.
- Ability to accept constructive feedback and follow directions.
- Physical ability to assist with student toileting and hygiene needs.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and provide physical support as necessary.
- Flexibility in working hours to assist students on special education transportation.
- Regular attendance and punctuality are essential.
- Other qualifications as required by the Board.
- Support the educational institution's vision, goals, and priorities.
- Reinforce lesson concepts with individual or groups of students, verify work accuracy, and present additional assignments as directed by the instructor.
- Assist students in utilizing books, computers, classroom materials, and other resources.
- Help maintain records related to attendance, grades, test scores, or behavior as assigned.
- Facilitate the transfer of students in and out of mobility devices and onto transportation.
- Assist students with toileting needs, including diapering and lifting.
- Support self-care and movement needs of students with special requirements (positioning, lifting, transferring, etc.).
- Assist in food service, including obtaining and serving meals to students.
- Manage student behavior, including crisis intervention when necessary, and implement behavior management strategies.
- Facilitate the use of mobility aids such as braces, walkers, and tricycles.
- Support teachers during field trips by addressing students' physical needs and maintaining discipline.
- Assist transportation staff in maintaining discipline and addressing students' physical needs.
- Provide assistance on special education transportation as directed by school leadership.
- Support teachers in directing activities and leading play for assigned student groups.
- Perform basic health and first aid tasks for special education students as directed by a school nurse.
- Implement behavior management plans as instructed by the teacher.
- Adjust instructional materials as needed to meet student needs.
- Attend Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings upon request.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding school and workplace matters in compliance with applicable laws.
- Perform duties with professionalism and courtesy.
- Demonstrate initiative in identifying areas for improvement within responsibilities.
- Respond to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
- Submit required reports and records accurately and on time using technology or other means as directed.
- Care for school resources and materials responsibly.
- Utilize collaboration skills to work effectively as part of a team.
- Adhere to school policies, administrative procedures, and relevant laws.
- Report absences and take leave in accordance with established policies.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the teacher, principal, or Exceptional Education Director.
Evaluation: Performance will be assessed according to the Board's evaluation policy for personnel.
