QUALIFICATIONS :
  1. High school diploma or equivalent with demonstrated proficiency in fundamental skills.
  2. For Title I or Title I Targeted Assistance Program Schools only:
    a. Must possess an Associate's Degree (or)
    b. Have completed a minimum of 48 semester hours at a regionally accredited institution of higher education (or)
    c. Have successfully completed the Alabama State Board of Education approved WORKKEYS assessment.
  3. Physical capability to perform all necessary tasks including lifting, bending, and stooping.
  4. Ability to cultivate positive interpersonal relationships.
  5. Fulfill background clearance requirements as mandated by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.
FLSA: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO : Principal

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Salary and benefits will be provided in accordance with the approved compensation plan of the system.
Length of the work year and hours of employment will be established by the system.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
  1. Comprehend and assist in enforcing school rules, policies, and procedures.
  2. Contribute to the efficient and effective functioning of the school as directed by the principal.
  3. Maintain confidentiality regarding information related to students and staff.
  4. Support the development of positive student attitudes towards citizenship, self-discipline, morality, and patriotism.
  5. Arrive for duty at least 15 minutes prior to the start of school and remain at least 10 minutes after school ends unless otherwise specified in a special contract.
  6. Engage in regular planning sessions with the assigned teacher.
  7. Work with individual students and groups as assigned.
  8. Assist the teacher in student assessment activities as directed.
  9. Maintain records of student performance and achievements as assigned. Aid the teacher in preparing materials essential for a conducive learning environment.
  10. Perform clerical duties including inventory management, filing, and typing; operate audiovisual equipment; and care for educational materials.
  11. Assist the teacher with the basic physical needs of students.
  12. Take necessary precautions to ensure the safety and welfare of students.
  13. Participate in individual, school, and system-wide professional development activities.
  14. Foster a collaborative working relationship with school staff, parents, and the community.
  15. Promote positive public relations for the school system. Uphold the confidentiality of all school-related matters.
  16. Be knowledgeable of and adhere to Board of Education policies.
  17. Assume other reasonable job-related responsibilities as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
  1. Ability to engage with students and adults in a constructive manner.
  2. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  3. Basic proficiency in English and mathematics.
  4. Capability to follow both written and verbal instructions.

Performance in this role will be assessed in accordance with the provisions of the Board's evaluation policy.
