Overview:

The Clinical Support Specialist plays a vital role in assisting healthcare professionals by performing both administrative and clinical tasks under the supervision of physicians and management. Administrative responsibilities may encompass scheduling patient appointments, maintaining accurate medical records, processing billing, and managing insurance coding. Clinical responsibilities include measuring and documenting vital signs, gathering medical histories, preparing patients for examinations, drawing blood, and administering prescribed medications. This position supports the Mission and Vision of Southeastern Integrated Care, focusing on chronic care delivery, collaborative care, and remote patient monitoring services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform essential job functions effectively.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to patients, their families, and colleagues.
  • Adhere to and implement company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations within the clinic.
  • Document all patient interactions, phone communications, and treatments in the patient’s health record.
  • Prepare and administer medications or treatments as directed by healthcare providers.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all patient information.
  • Exhibit a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Comply with infection control protocols and safety procedures.
  • Arrive punctually for shifts to ensure timely patient check-ins.
  • Assist fellow team members during breaks and busy periods.
  • Review medications and allergies with each patient, ensuring accuracy in documentation.
  • Clean examination rooms after each patient visit.
  • Administer injections and treatments as necessary.
  • Restock examination rooms as needed.
  • Collect lab specimens, including blood draws, as ordered.
  • Record vital signs, weight, and smoking status for each patient visit.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and follow up on communications by the end of the day.
  • Facilitate specialist referrals and appointments in a timely manner.
  • Document immunizations for all administered vaccines.
  • Record all medications given, including details in the patient’s health record.
  • Ensure proper cleaning and sterilization of instruments.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Support company policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Accept and perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
  • Maintain accurate client data in the electronic health record system.
  • Foster positive relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Screen visitors and phone calls, providing relevant information.
  • Guide and mentor new team members.
  • Organize and maintain records and reports related to assigned responsibilities.
  • Review documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with office equipment and technology.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills and the ability to manage stress effectively.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with coworkers.
  • Bilingual candidates (Spanish) are preferred.

Supervisory Role:

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

Education:

A high school diploma or equivalent, along with a medical assistant diploma from an accredited institution or relevant community college coursework.

Experience:

  • At least two years in an administrative or clerical role.
  • Familiarity with healthcare terminology, regulations, and best practices.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of one year of recent experience in a medical facility as a medical assistant or completion of an externship in a medical office.

Required Skills:

  • Problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Empathy towards individuals with mental health, substance abuse, or developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to interact compassionately with patients and their families.

Certifications:

  • Preferred national certification as a registered medical assistant (RMA) or certified medical assistant (CMA).
  • Current CPR certification and up-to-date health records with required immunizations.

Work Environment:

The work environment is typically an office setting with moderate noise levels.

Physical Requirements:

Regularly required to use hands for handling, talking, seeing, and hearing. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds frequently. Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, and repetitive movements. Must be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.
