Role Responsibilities:

  • The EpicCare Inpatient Orders specialists are tasked with the configuration of the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system to meet the unique requirements of the organization. This includes establishing order sets, catalogs, and types that are in harmony with clinical workflows and established best practices.
  • These experts facilitate the electronic submission of orders into the Epic EHR system, collaborating closely with healthcare professionals to ensure the precision and completeness of order entries, which encompass medications, laboratory tests, diagnostic procedures, consultations, and other treatment options.
  • They are also responsible for the ongoing maintenance and updating of order sets, working alongside clinicians and clinical informatics teams to assess and revise these sets based on evidence-based practices and regulatory standards.
  • In addition, they configure and manage clinical decision support tools within the system, setting up alerts and guidelines to encourage safe ordering practices while monitoring their effectiveness in minimizing errors and enhancing patient outcomes.
  • Training and support for healthcare providers on the effective use of EpicCare Inpatient Orders is another critical aspect of this role. This includes educating users on system functionalities and workflows, as well as providing troubleshooting assistance.
  • Collaboration with the IT department is essential for performing system maintenance, applying updates, and ensuring optimal performance of the order management system, including participation in testing and validation processes.
  • Finally, these professionals engage in quality assurance initiatives, analyzing order-related data to identify trends and generating reports to evaluate order utilization and compliance with established guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, or Healthcare is preferred, or eight years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities, alongside excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, with the capacity to adapt to changing priorities, and a solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other productivity tools.
