At Jacobs, we are committed to your growth and success. Our work transcends mere projects; it is a collective challenge that we embrace as a community. We take a collaborative and thoughtful approach to every partnership.

We aim to challenge conventional thinking and redefine solutions to the world's most pressing challenges, transforming ambitious ideas into intelligent solutions for a more interconnected and sustainable future.

Design your professional journey with a company that motivates and empowers you to achieve your best work, enabling you to evolve, grow, and succeed – now and in the future.

As a Materials Engineer, you will oversee the materials utilized in automotive chassis systems. You should possess a deep understanding of various materials employed in chassis components, including metals, resins, elastomers, corrosion-resistant coatings, and automotive fluids. You will also need to grasp the compatibility of these materials concerning secondary operations like rubber bonding and electroplating.

Your role will involve collaboration with vehicle teams and core engineering to address issues related to material compatibility, warranty, production, and processing challenges that arise throughout the lifecycle of a part or subsystem.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit exemplary behaviors aligned with company values: Excellence, Focus, & Collaboration.
  • Develop and maintain foundational engineering documents to mitigate recurring issues, including:
    • Material and Performance Specifications
    • Approved Source List (ASL)
    • Ford Laboratory Test Methods (FLTMs)
    • Material FEDE requirements and Design Rules
    • Material property data within the Material Center Database
  • Articulate the operational environment in which components/systems function.
  • Assess the compatibility of basic materials within the manufacturing and processing environments, including Tier 1 suppliers.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings and Bill of Materials (BOMs) in Teamcenter (TCe).
  • Evaluate and approve Design Verification/Product Validation (DV/PV) plans and part performance test reports.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and provide materials and process expertise to resolve manufacturing and field issues, collaborating with various teams.
  • Support manufacturing site assessments, process development, and issue resolution.
  • Work with core engineering functions to enhance test methods for better field correlation and prevent recurrence.
  • Contribute to material cost reduction initiatives.

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Chemical Engineering with a focus on metals.
  • Relevant internships or cooperative experiences in laboratory failure analysis, metals, resins, or elastomers production or research.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, self-motivated, and driven.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in the automotive or raw materials production sectors.
  • Familiarity with automotive testing methods and sound laboratory practices.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift test parts weighing up to 50 lbs (25% of the time).
  • Work primarily in an office environment and test facility (100% of the time).
  • Exposure to test equipment (25% of the time).
  • May require occasional local travel (25% of the time).

Attendance Expectations:

  • Regular attendance is critical, with flexibility to support testing schedules that may extend into other shifts or weekends.
  • Work hours typically consist of 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday.

All candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screen, health performance evaluation, and background check. Professional behavior and clear communication skills in English are essential for success in this role.
