Oversee the materials utilized in automotive chassis systems. Possess extensive knowledge in various fundamental materials employed in automotive chassis components, including metals, resins, elastomers, corrosion-resistant coatings, and automotive fluids. Understand the compatibility of these materials concerning secondary operations such as rubber bonding and electroplating. Additionally, the materials engineer collaborates with vehicle teams and core engineering to address material compatibility, warranty, production, and processing challenges encountered throughout the lifecycle of a part or subsystem.

Self-motivation, along with exceptional organizational and communication abilities, is essential for this role. The capacity to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines (Engineering, Research, Laboratory, and Design) is crucial. Aid in resolving assembly, manufacturing, durability, and field issues while identifying and recommending subsequent actions. Act as a liaison among the laboratory, engineering, and manufacturing teams.

Key Responsibilities:

· Create and manage foundational documents for materials engineering and update them to prevent issue recurrence:

· Material and Performance Specifications, Approved Source List (ASL), and Ford Laboratory Test Methods (FLTMs)

· Material FEDE requirements and Design Rules

· Material property data stored in the Material Center Database

· Ability to articulate the operational environment in which components/systems function.

· Ability to explain the compatibility of fundamental materials within the manufacturing and processing environment, including Tier 1 suppliers.

· Review and approve engineering drawings and Bill of Materials (BOMs) in Teamcenter (TCe).

· Review and approve Design Verification/Product Validation (DV/PV) plans and part performance test reports.

· Provide root cause analysis, materials, and process expertise to support resolution for manufacturing and field issues, collaborating with Engineering, Supplier Technical Assistance (STA), Program Vehicle Team (PVT), Purchasing, and Research.

· Support assessments of manufacturing sites, process development, and issue resolution.

· Collaborate with core engineering functions to develop/update test methods for enhanced field correlation and prevent recurrence.

· Assist in initiatives aimed at reducing material costs.

Qualifications Required:

Basic Qualifications:

· Bachelor of Science in Materials Science & Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Chemical Engineering with a focus on metals

· Relevant internships or cooperative experiences in laboratory failure analysis, and/or production or research in metals, resins, or elastomers

· Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

· Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

· Demonstrated leadership capabilities, self-motivated, and driven

Preferred Qualifications:

· 1-2 years of experience in the automotive or raw materials production sectors

· Familiarity with automotive testing methodologies and sound laboratory practices
