Overview:
The Quality Supervisor at Velocity Machine Inc. plays a pivotal role in steering the quality assurance department. This position entails taking charge of the development and training of staff in all facets of quality assurance.
Collaboration with the Quality & Engineering Manager is essential to ensure that the department is delivering optimal support across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:The following duties are integral to this role and may be adjusted or expanded as necessary:
- Oversee, mentor, and support the quality assurance team to ensure that:
- All inspection tasks (initial and final) are executed accurately and promptly.
- New product inspections are completed ahead of schedule and thoroughly reviewed.
- Calibration of gauges is consistently maintained.
- Product quality audits are conducted at the required intervals.
- Incoming inspections are performed as mandated.
- Areas for improvement are identified, and training needs are assessed and addressed.
Daily tasks include reviewing and entering nonconforming product data into designated software, which encompasses:
- Evaluating nonconformances and determining appropriate actions in collaboration with production supervisors or engineering.
- Ensuring the completeness of nonconforming material tags and documenting discrepancies for management review.
- Verifying the effectiveness of root cause analyses and corrective actions taken to mitigate nonconformances.
Initiate workflows for customer and supplier non-conformances, providing necessary information to relevant personnel.
Assess returned products from customers to determine appropriate actions and collaborate with production to identify root causes and corrective measures.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within the quality department and the Quality Management System.
- Manage gaging requirements for both new and existing projects.
- Oversee the internal audit system, ensuring timely completion of audits and submission of findings and corrective action requests to management.
- Complete documentation for new parts, including ballooned drawings, inspection check sheets, operator instructions, SPC charts, process flow diagrams, FMEA, control plans, dimensional layout requirements, part submission warrants, capability studies, and measurement system analyses.
- Collaborate with customers on deviations for dimensional and cosmetic issues, discuss potential engineering changes to enhance manufacturability, and address concerns regarding shipping preservation and product quality.
- Conduct supplier audits.
- Enter monthly metrics and review cost of quality data.
- Analyze Statistical Process Control data for potential process enhancements.
Assist with various quality-related tasks as required, including CMM programming.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
A degree in Manufacturing Engineering or Quality Assurance is preferred; a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
A minimum of five years of experience in quality assurance is preferred.
Familiarity with CMM programming and related software is advantageous.
Knowledge of APQP requirements is beneficial.
Understanding of gauging methodologies and metrology is preferred.
Awareness of ISO 9000 standards is essential.
Strong independent thinking, organizational, planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills are crucial.
Physical Requirements:
This role requires the ability to sit for extended periods, navigate the office and machine shop environments, and occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:
The employee will operate in a laboratory setting, with occasional access to the machine shop floor. Travel may be required for customer visits, which may necessitate overnight stays.
