Overview:
The Quality Supervisor at Velocity Machine Inc. is responsible for leading and guiding the quality assurance department. This role entails taking ownership of staff development in all quality assurance functions.

Collaboration with the Quality & Engineering Manager is essential to ensure that the department provides adequate support across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
The following duties are essential to the role and may be adjusted or expanded as necessary:

  • Supervise, mentor, and support the quality assurance team to ensure that:
    • All inspection tasks (initial and final) are performed accurately and promptly.
    • New product specifications are completed ahead of schedule and thoroughly reviewed.
    • Gage calibration is consistently maintained.
    • Product quality audits are conducted at the required intervals.
    • Incoming inspections are performed as mandated.
    • Opportunities for improvement are identified, and training needs are assessed and addressed.

Daily tasks include the review and entry of nonconforming product data into designated software systems, which involves:
  • Assessing nonconformance and determining the appropriate disposition in collaboration with production supervisors or engineering.
  • Ensuring the completeness of nonconforming material tags and documenting discrepancies for production supervisors and operations management.
  • Verifying the effectiveness of root cause analysis and corrective actions taken to mitigate nonconformance.

Additionally, the role involves initiating workflows for customer and supplier non-conformances and providing necessary return information to relevant personnel or customers.

Reviewing returned products from customers to ascertain disposition and coordinating with production to identify root causes and corrective measures is also part of the responsibilities.

Continuous Improvement:
Identify and implement areas for continuous improvement within the quality department and the Quality Management System.
Manage gaging requirements for both new and existing projects.

Oversee the internal audit system, ensuring timely completion of audits and submitting findings along with corrective action requests to management.

Complete documentation for new parts, including ballooned drawings, inspection check sheets, operator instructions, SPC charts, process flow diagrams, FMEA, control plans, dimensional layout requirements, part submission warrants, capability studies, and measurement system analysis.

Engage with customers regarding deviation approvals for dimensional and cosmetic concerns, discuss potential engineering modifications to enhance manufacturability, and address any issues related to shipping preservation or product quality.

Supplier Audits:
Conduct supplier audits and manage monthly metric data entry, including cost of quality analysis.
Perform statistical process control data analysis to identify opportunities for process enhancements.

Qualifications:
A degree in Manufacturing Engineering or Quality Assurance is preferred, along with a minimum of five years of experience in quality assurance.
Familiarity with CMM programming and related software is advantageous, as is knowledge of APQP requirements, gauging methodologies, and ISO 9000 standards.
Strong independent thinking, organizational skills, planning abilities, and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are crucial for success in this role.

Physical Requirements:
The position requires the ability to sit for extended periods, navigate the office and machine shop environment, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
