St. Norbert College, a distinguished private institution known for its commitment to liberal arts education, is on the lookout for a Culinary Supervisor. Become part of a dedicated team recognized for excellence in college dining services. This role involves collaborating with the Assistant Head Chefs to manage and engage in daily kitchen operations, which includes supervising staff, assisting in meal preparation, ensuring food quality and freshness, addressing staff meal prep inquiries, resolving any meal prep or quality concerns, and monitoring safety and sanitation protocols throughout the kitchen.

Regular working hours are Monday to Friday, with some flexibility during summer and academic breaks. Chefs will participate in a rotation for weekend duties and be on call every ninth weekend.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Assistant Head Chef in directing workflow and oversee the preparation of all meals using standardized recipes. Responsible for the execution of breakfast and lunch services in the dining hall. Collaborate with the Purchasing team to ensure proper food flow and handling.
  • Maintain accurate records and update food handling procedures, including cooling, labeling, and reheating guidelines.
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate staff, ensuring adherence to culinary standards.
  • Support the management of food and labor costs by implementing and maintaining standard operating procedures.
  • Work with the Head Chef and Assistant Head Chefs to develop and deliver essential training programs, including safety and culinary skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; a Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Culinary Arts is preferred.
  • 2-3 years of supervisory experience in a culinary setting.
  • 4-5 years of relevant culinary experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, particularly in conflict resolution.
  • Proficient in multitasking and prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Basic math skills for inventory and cost management.
  • Familiarity with computer applications and a willingness to learn new software.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to lead by example and motivate team members.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing events and projects.
  • Capability to maintain focus in a busy kitchen atmosphere.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the role, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
