POSITION OBJECTIVE

To execute semi-skilled tasks under the guidance of the head facilities serviceperson, overseeing and participating in the cleaning initiatives to uphold the cleanliness, organization, aesthetic appeal, and safety of the facilities. Additionally, to competently operate various mechanical systems while fulfilling assigned duties.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Head Facilities Serviceperson (High School/Vocational Center) will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Assess the work completed by Facilities Serviceperson and other staff assigned to the shift as directed by the Head Custodian.
  • Guide subordinate personnel on the correct usage of supplies, equipment, chemicals, ladders, and safety protocols.
  • Carry out the responsibilities of Facilities Serviceperson.
  • Manage, monitor, adjust, and deactivate boilers, air conditioning systems, power sources, etc.
  • Ascend steps and ladders to replace light bulbs and perform minor repairs as instructed by the head custodian, principal, or administrator.
  • Ensure the security of the school premises before leaving: secure and lock gates, inspect the perimeter, activate security systems, lock doors, etc.
  • Notify the supervisor of required supplies. Identify building equipment, mechanical issues, and structural concerns that necessitate maintenance or servicing. Report needs to the immediate supervisor or submit maintenance work orders as directed.
  • Assume the duties of the Head Facilities Serviceperson during vacations and other short-term absences.
  • Consistently practice safety and ensure a secure working environment.
  • Engage in training programs to enhance skills and proficiency related to assigned tasks.
  • Complete all projects competently and ensure accurate recording of time and materials.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks, such as climbing, lifting, and pulling, with the ability to lift an average of up to fifty-five (55) pounds.
  • Stay updated with current developments, literature, and technical resources related to job responsibilities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Execute additional duties as required by the principal/administrator or their designee.
  • Adhere to federal and state regulations, as well as School Board policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Standard high school diploma or completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
  • Three (3) years of experience in industrial, commercial, or educational facility settings.
  • Ability to follow standard custodial practices and act as Head Custodian in their absence. Capability to plan and direct the work of others; prepare work programs and schedules. Comprehensive knowledge of cleaning materials, preparation, and proper usage of cleaning equipment. Understanding and practice of energy conservation. Physically capable of climbing and working from ladders. Ability to assume responsibility and follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to work in elevated situations and operate heavy-duty floor scrubbing and rug shampooing equipment.
  • Completion of the Professional and Master Facilities Service job-related training program, conducted by Human Resource Development, prior to applying for the position.
  • Non-compliance may lead to disciplinary actions, including demotion, as per the applicable bargaining agreement.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bilingual skills are preferred.

FREQUENCY OF CONTACT

Most interactions are with employees within the department, utilizing communication skills that require tact and courtesy to convey or receive information directly related to job performance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as necessary to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits will be provided in accordance with the District's approved compensation plan. The length of the work year and hours of employment will be established by the School Board.
