POSITION OBJECTIVE

To execute semi-skilled tasks under the guidance of the Head Facilities Serviceperson, overseeing and engaging in the cleaning operations to uphold the cleanliness, organization, aesthetics, and safety of the facilities. This role also involves the responsible operation of various mechanical systems in alignment with assigned duties.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate the work conducted by Facilities Servicepersons and other staff assigned to the shift as directed by the Head Custodian.
  • Guide subordinate staff on the correct utilization of supplies, equipment, chemicals, ladders, and safety protocols.
  • Perform the responsibilities of a Facilities Serviceperson.
  • Operate, monitor, adjust, and deactivate boilers, air conditioning systems, power sources, etc.
  • Ascend steps and ladders to replace light bulbs and carry out minor repairs as instructed by the head custodian, principal, or school administrator.
  • Ensure the security of the facility before leaving: close and secure gates, inspect the perimeter, activate security systems, lock doors, etc.
  • Notify the supervisor of required supplies. Identify building equipment, mechanical issues, and structural concerns that necessitate maintenance or servicing. Report needs to the immediate supervisor or submit maintenance work orders as directed.
  • Assume the duties of the Head Facilities Serviceperson during vacation and other short-term absences.
  • Consistently practice safety measures and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Participate successfully in training programs aimed at enhancing individual skills and proficiency related to job assignments.
  • Complete all tasks competently and ensure accurate documentation of time and materials used.
  • Perform all tasks requiring significant physical effort, such as climbing, lifting, and pulling, with the capability to lift an average of up to fifty-five (55) pounds.
  • Stay updated with current developments, literature, and technical resources relevant to job responsibilities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Execute additional duties as assigned by the principal/administrator or their designee.
  • Adhere to federal and state regulations, along with School Board policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Standard high school diploma or successful completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
  • Three (3) years of experience in industrial, commercial, or educational facility management.
  • Ability to follow standard custodial practices and act as Head Custodian in their absence. Proficient in planning and directing the work of others; capable of preparing work programs and schedules. Extensive knowledge of cleaning materials, preparation, and proper usage of cleaning equipment. Understanding and practice of energy conservation. Physically capable of climbing and working from ladders. Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to operate heavy-duty floor scrubbing and rug shampooing equipment.
  • Completion of the Professional and Master Facilities Service job-related training program, conducted by Human Resource Development, is required prior to applying for the position.
  • Non-compliance with this requirement may lead to disciplinary actions, including demotion, as per the relevant Bargaining Agreement.
  • Computer skills as necessary for the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bilingual skills are preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as often as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits will be provided in accordance with the District's approved compensation plan. The duration of the work year and hours of employment will be determined by the School Board.
