The Division of Clinical Pathology at Montefiore Medical Center is dedicated to the laboratory analysis of blood, urine, and other bodily fluids for the purpose of diagnosing diseases and maintaining health. Our division utilizes cutting-edge technology and maintains advanced automated equipment across multiple laboratory sites.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate tissue processors to create paraffin blocks and manage the filing of these blocks and slides.

• Embed pathology specimens to ensure comprehensive layer visibility.

• Utilize rotary microtomes to section pathology specimens.

• Perform routine staining procedures, including Hematoxylin and Eosin, as well as special stains to identify specific organisms or tissue elements.

• Conduct enzyme histochemistry as required.

• Manage order entries and updates in the Laboratory Information System for billing purposes.

• Ensure accurate labeling and signing out of slides for proper case distribution.

• Execute manual and automated cover slipping to prevent air or water bubbles.

• Uphold quality control standards across all routine tasks to maintain laboratory excellence.

• Document equipment maintenance to guarantee optimal functionality.

• Prepare necessary solutions for accurate histological processing.

• Address requests from pathology residents and attendings to ensure complete work orders.

• Assist in Immunohistochemistry procedures for antigen identification.

• File paraffin blocks and slides systematically.

• Undertake additional departmental duties as needed.

Qualifications:

• An Associate's Degree in Medical Technology or Life Sciences is required.

• A valid New York State Department of Education Certified Histological Laboratory Technician License or a limited permit is mandatory. Candidates must secure the limited permit within the probationary period for continued employment.

• Proficiency in prioritizing tissue handling and troubleshooting technical procedures is essential.

• Familiarity with equipment such as rotary microtomes, Laboratory Information Systems, and automated cover slippers is required.

• Comprehensive knowledge of histopathology techniques and immunohistochemistry processes is necessary.

This role is situated within the Surgical Pathology lab. The working hours are structured to support evening shifts.
