Position Overview

The Clinical Laboratory Technician plays a vital role in the Division of Clinical Pathology, which is tasked with conducting laboratory analyses on blood, urine, and other bodily fluids to assist in diagnosing diseases and maintaining health.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine and urgent laboratory tests on various specimens, utilizing both automated and manual methods.
  • Ensure the accuracy of test results by reviewing data prior to release.
  • Document and report any abnormal or critical values promptly.
  • Maintain quality assurance and quality control records, addressing any discrepancies as per laboratory protocols.
  • Prepare necessary reagents and manage inventory, informing supervisors as needed.
  • Keep detailed records of all laboratory work and equipment maintenance.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, including answering calls and entering orders into the laboratory information system.
  • May oversee the operations of a specific laboratory unit and provide guidance to fellow technicians.
  • Support the training and onboarding of new staff members.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace in accordance with infection control standards.
  • Perform additional laboratory-related duties as directed by supervisory staff.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant physical science; medical technology is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or a limited permit from the New York State Department of Education is required.
  • Familiarity with laboratory and hospital information systems, as well as various automated laboratory equipment.
