The role involves conducting both routine and urgent analyses on blood and various bodily fluids utilizing a range of automated and manual equipment efficiently. Technicians are responsible for maintaining instruments and documentation in accordance with departmental protocols and regulatory standards concerning Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC). The ability to independently troubleshoot technical and procedural issues is essential. Prolonged periods of standing or sitting may be required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Execute routine and emergency tests on blood, serum, spinal fluid, and other bodily fluids using both automated and manual methodologies as necessary. Ensure the timely monitoring of specimens to confirm task completion.

• Scrutinize data prior to dissemination.

• Report any critical or abnormal results promptly.

• Maintain quality control records for tests conducted, address QC discrepancies, and document actions as per laboratory protocols.

• Prepare reagents, manage inventory, and inform supervisors as needed.

• Keep comprehensive records of all tasks performed and maintain equipment maintenance logs.

• Assist with phone inquiries and perform order entry in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) as required.

• May oversee the work of a laboratory unit and provide guidance to fellow technicians.

• Participate in the training of new staff members.

• Ensure a clean working environment in line with Infection Control standards.

• Undertake additional laboratory-related duties as directed by a supervisor.

Qualifications:

• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a physical science; medical technology is preferred.

• At least one year of relevant work experience.

• Possession of a New York State Department of Education Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or a limited permit is mandatory. Candidates must secure a provisional permit within the initial probationary period for continued employment. Until the provisional permit is obtained, associates are not authorized to release any patient reports.

• Familiarity with laboratory and hospital information systems, various automated equipment, and other laboratory tools is required.

This position is situated within the Blood Bank Lab at Montefiore Medical Center. The working hours are from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM, with varying days and alternate weekends.

We are pleased to offer a sign-on bonus for the selected candidate.
