Automotive Technician - Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Automotive Technician is responsible for conducting essential inspections, diagnostics, and repair services for vehicles, ensuring high-quality customer service and compliance with safety standards while using tools and equipment. This role also involves managing inventory and assisting with facility upkeep.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Utilizes tire balancing and mounting equipment to service tires, repair flats, rotate tires, and conduct diagnostic assessments for tire performance.
  • Maintains knowledge of tire products to manage inventory and assist with stock inquiries and logistics.
  • Conducts oil changes and visual inspections, including checks under the hood and vehicle diagnostics.
  • Performs basic maintenance tasks such as battery replacements, filter installations, and bulb changes.
  • Executes alignments and fluid flushes using appropriate machinery.
  • Identifies basic mechanical issues through diagnostic testing and road assessments.
  • Assists in maintaining the facility by adhering to cleaning protocols and performing general maintenance tasks.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

Safely operates various tools and equipment, including tire machines, balancers, lifts, and diagnostic instruments necessary for the Automotive Technician role.

QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates will possess the following:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Basic automotive service knowledge.
  • Understanding of starting and charging systems.
  • Familiarity with automotive maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Basic automotive diagnostic skills.

LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret safety guidelines, operational instructions, and maintenance manuals. Capable of writing routine reports and correspondence.

MATH AND REASONING ABILITY

Proficient in basic mathematical operations and capable of solving practical problems with varying degrees of complexity.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the ability to perform physical tasks, including standing, walking, and using hands to operate tools. Regular lifting of up to 50 pounds is expected, with occasional lifting of heavier items.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is dynamic and may involve exposure to mechanical parts, chemicals, and varying weather conditions. The noise level is typically high due to machinery in operation.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Compliance with the company's drug-free workplace policy is mandatory.
  • A background check may be required as part of the hiring process.
