Position Overview

Early Childhood Education Support Specialist

Role Summary: This position is designed to provide assistance to one or more Early Childhood educators in the nurturing, supervision, and instructional activities for preschool-aged children. The role encompasses responsibilities within classroom settings, communal areas, and outdoor play spaces, all within a center focused on pre-kindergarten education. The specialist will also be involved in the preparation and maintenance of educational environments, materials, and documentation, as well as contributing to the development of engaging, play-based learning experiences.

Employment Details:
Work Schedule: 182 workdays annually
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $24.21 per hour, structured in 9 annual increments based on experience (new hires capped at step 5).
Location: To be determined
Hours: 7 hours per day, 5 days per week
Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance options available for employees working 4 or more hours daily (full district contribution for those working 6+ hours daily; 50% contribution for those working less than 6 hours).

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a High School diploma along with 6 college credits in Early Childhood Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field with a focus on infant to preschool age children. Successful completion of at least 48 college credit units or passing a competency assessment is required. A minimum of one year of experience in a preschool enrichment program or childcare environment is preferred.

In accordance with the Federal Head Start Program requirements, candidates must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and hold a California Associate Teacher Permit (also referred to as the "Child Development Associate Credential") or possess an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited institution.

Licensure and Certifications:
Applicants may need to hold a valid driver's license. Certification or permits are required as outlined in the Child Development Permit Matrix established by the California Department of Education. CPR/First Aid certification with pediatric endorsement is also necessary.

  • NCLB Compliance (48 college units or pass the Paraeducator Proficiency Exam as specified)
  • Proof of High School Graduation (High School Diploma, Transcripts, or Equivalent)
  • Resume (demonstrating relevant experience)
