Overview:

The Financial Aid Department is on the lookout for a skilled professional to take on the role of Financial Aid Advisor.

West Valley College is nestled in a serene, park-like environment, providing a tranquil backdrop for both staff and students. Our team is composed of highly qualified individuals who foster a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for all students.

This role is essential for executing a range of technical tasks associated with financial aid, institutional scholarships, and related initiatives. Responsibilities include evaluating and assembling comprehensive financial aid packages, as well as managing updates to relevant software systems.

Position Details:

This is a full-time position, requiring 37.5 hours per week, for a duration of 12 months per year. The anticipated start date is forthcoming. The schedule may require some evening or weekend hours, as necessary. This position is part of the West Valley-Mission Classified Employees Association (WVMCEA), Office, Technical & Business Services Employee Unit.

Work Location: West Valley College.

Compensation and Benefits:

Expected Salary Range:

  • $6,412.75-$6,980.67 monthly (based on the WVMCEA Salary Schedule).

Minimum Qualifications:

A combination of experience and education that provides the necessary knowledge and skills is required. A typical pathway to meet these qualifications includes:

  • Experience: A minimum of two years of relevant financial aid experience.
  • Education: An Associate's degree from an accredited institution, with coursework in accounting, business, general education, or a related field.

AND

Demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will also exhibit the following:

  • Experience working with underrepresented populations.
  • Knowledge of Title IV regulations and experience in eligibility determination, fund awarding, and disbursement.
  • A strong student-centered and customer service approach.

  • Conduct needs analysis and award packaging in accordance with program requirements.
  • Monitor student academic progress for compliance.
  • Perform calculations and reconcile financial data.
  • Plan and coordinate program activities.
  • Work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Establish effective working relationships.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports using computer systems.
  • Prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms.
  • Advocate for program participants' needs.
  • Train and direct student assistants and other staff as needed.
  • Operate office equipment efficiently.
  • Utilize financial aid and data management software effectively.
  • Engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds with respect and courtesy.
  • Safeguard confidential information.
Responsibilities:

  • Providing guidance to students and families regarding financial aid eligibility and requirements.
  • Assessing financial need based on federal and state guidelines.
  • Offering technical expertise on financial aid and scholarships to various stakeholders.
  • Verifying compliance with eligibility requirements for financial aid programs.
  • Utilizing software for data processing and reporting.
  • Monitoring and resolving issues related to financial aid systems.
  • Collaborating with instructional staff to ensure program communication.
  • Maintaining a calendar of financial aid events and deadlines.
  • Ensuring adherence to federal and state regulations.
  • Participating in professional development activities.
  • Supporting outreach efforts as needed.
  • Preparing timely reports and reconciling financial aid programs.
  • Supervising student workers and processing their timesheets.
  • Building positive relationships with colleagues and the community.
  • Contributing to a diverse and respectful work environment.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.
