Overview:The Financial Aid Department is in search of a skilled professional to take on the role of Financial Aid Advisor.
West Valley College is located in a serene, park-like environment, providing a supportive atmosphere that is highly regarded by students and staff alike.
This role is essential for executing various technical tasks related to financial assistance, institutional scholarships, and associated programs. Responsibilities include evaluating and assembling comprehensive financial aid packages and ensuring the maintenance and updates of relevant software systems.
This is a full-time position, requiring 37.5 hours per week, for a duration of 12 months. The work schedule may include some evening or weekend hours as necessary. This position is part of the West Valley-Mission Classified Employees Association (WVMCEA), Office, Technical & Business Services Employee Unit.
Work Location: West Valley College.
Expected Salary Range:
- $6,412.75-$6,980.67 monthly (based on WVMCEA Salary Schedule, Range 57, Steps A-C).

- Experience: Two years of relevant financial aid experience.
- Education: An Associate's degree from an accredited institution, with coursework in accounting, business, general education, or a related field.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Advising students and families on financial aid program eligibility and requirements; assisting with application completion; reviewing financial aid files; and disbursing funds as appropriate.
- Evaluating students' financial needs in accordance with federal and state guidelines; reviewing special circumstances requests and making decisions based on established criteria.
- Providing technical expertise on financial aid and scholarships to students, staff, and faculty.
- Verifying compliance with eligibility requirements for financial aid programs; performing monthly reconciliations.
- Utilizing advanced computer systems for data processing and reporting; ensuring accuracy in financial and statistical data.
- Monitoring and resolving issues related to automated financial aid systems.
- Collaborating with instructional staff to ensure timely communication of new programs and certificates.
- Maintaining a calendar of financial aid events and deadlines; performing reconciliations of assigned programs.
- Ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations regarding record retention and audits.
- Participating in professional development and training opportunities.
- Supporting outreach efforts at various events as needed.
- Preparing accurate reports and performing reconciliations for assigned programs.
- Training and supervising student workers.
- Building positive relationships with colleagues and the public through excellent customer service.
- Fostering an inclusive environment that values diversity and respect.
