About the Role: Dining Room Assistant

Role Summary: The Dining Room Assistant plays a crucial role in creating a welcoming and enjoyable dining experience for residents. This part-time position involves collaborating with a diverse team to ensure that residents receive quality service tailored to their individual needs. The role also encompasses maintaining a clean and inviting kitchen and dining area that reflects the preferences of our residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist residents in selecting their desired meals while ensuring their dietary needs are met.
  • Collaborate with the neighborhood dietitian to understand and implement diet modifications and individual preferences.
  • Prepare dining areas for meals, ensuring cleanliness and organization in the kitchen before concluding shifts.
  • Respond to individual meal requests from residents, presenting food in an appealing manner.
  • Manage inventory levels of food and supplies, adhering to daily stocking protocols and requisitioning procedures.
  • Support care staff during meal service by greeting residents, confirming dietary requirements, and ensuring the availability of all food items.
  • Perform thorough cleaning and restocking duties following meal service.
  • Maintain cleanliness of tables, surfaces, and kitchen appliances.
  • Ensure beverage stations are clean and operational.
  • Prepare for lunch service by ensuring steam wells are filled and operational.
  • Assist in enhancing the neighborhood's atmosphere between meals by providing snacks and beverages that align with residents' preferences.
  • Carry out additional non-direct care tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred experience of at least one year in hospitality or service roles within a restaurant or similar environment.
  • A genuine desire and ability to engage with and support the needs of elderly residents.
  • Commitment to embodying the core values of St. John's.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods.
  • Capable of performing tasks that involve walking, lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, bending, and reaching, with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment:

  • Potential exposure to wet surfaces, heat, steam, and kitchen equipment.
