Job Summary

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of OHSC invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a Full Time Senior Medical Physicist position in a dynamic and growing healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement radiation safety programs for the use of radioactive materials and x-rays in Diagnostic Radiology/Nuclear Medicine, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Perform internal audits, testing of equipment, and contamination surveys to ensure the safe use of radiation and radioactive materials.
  • Monitor radiation exposure to patients, staff, and the general public, and maintain accurate records for regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare necessary documentation for licensing of radioactive materials and registration and certification of radiation equipment, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
  • Serve as primary contact during equipment inspections and assist with accrediting body and government inspections, providing expert knowledge and guidance.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Establish protocols for scanning of implanted devices based on MR safe, MR conditional guidelines, ensuring patient safety and optimal imaging results.
  • Contribute to clinical services by serving as MRI Safety Expert, optimizing MRI-based clinical and research imaging protocols, and collaborating with clinical teams to improve patient outcomes.
  • Assist in design and execution of MRI data collection and analysis, and develop an ongoing process for quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and ACR accreditation, ensuring excellence in imaging services.
  • Conduct equipment acceptance testing and evaluate new technologies and upgrades, ensuring the latest and most advanced imaging capabilities.
  • Provide MR physics education for Resident and Fellow training programs, sharing expertise and knowledge to enhance training and development.
  • Carry out MRI research, including clinical trials, and collaborate with others conducting such research, advancing the field of medical imaging and improving patient care.
Requirements
  • PhD degree in a relevant field, such as Medical Physics or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in radiation safety, medical physics, or a related field.
  • Valid State of Florida license, and certification in Diagnostic Medical Physics, Radiological Physics, Medical Physics, and Magnetic Imaging Resonance Physics.
  • American Board of Science certification in Nuclear Medicine – Nuclear Medicine Physics & Instrumentation.
  • Qualifies to be Radiation Safety Officer for Broad Scope Radioactive Materials License with GammaKnife and High Dose-Rate Brachytherapy (HDR).
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes
  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data, including image analysis, and ability to recognize, analyze, and solve complex problems.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions, and to work effectively in a team environment.
