The University of Miami is currently seeking a Clinical Radiation Physicist to join the team at the Rosenstiel Medical Science Building.

The selected candidate will oversee the safe application of radiation and radioactive materials in all University and affiliated healthcare facilities, while supervising the tasks of Diagnostic Medical Physicists.

This role encompasses various facilities, including hospitals, community clinics, and satellite diagnostic centers.

The incumbent will allocate approximately 20% of their time to issues related to radioactive materials, 15% as an MRI Safety Expert, 55% to x-ray applications in Diagnostic Radiology/Nuclear Medicine, and 10% to personnel training.

As a Senior Physicist and Assistant Radiation Safety Officer, the incumbent will report to the department manager and director, overseeing a team of Medical Physicists, a Medical Physics Assistant, and a Technician.

Duties and Responsibilities

20% Establish and maintain radiation safety programs for radioactive materials; conduct internal audits, equipment testing, and contamination surveys to ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations; monitor radiation exposure for patients, staff, and the public; maintain records and correspondence with regulatory agencies; prepare documentation for radioactive material licensing; assist during inspections; serve on the hospital's Radiation Safety Committee.

15% Develop protocols for the scanning of implanted devices based on safety classifications.

55% Implement radiation safety programs for x-rays, linear accelerators, and other therapeutic devices; establish quality control and accreditation programs for diagnostic imaging modalities; perform shielding calculations and radiation surveys; monitor radiation exposure; maintain regulatory records; prepare documentation for equipment registration and certification; assist during inspections, serving as the primary contact for regulatory bodies.

10% Provide radiation safety training to resident physicians and nursing staff working with radiation or caring for patients receiving radioactive materials.

10% Additional duties as assigned, including acting as the Director of the Radiation Control Center and Radiation Safety Officer in the absence of the Director.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Ph.D. preferred; M.S. acceptable.

Certification and Licensing:
American Board of Radiology in Diagnostic Medical Physics; American Board of Radiology in Radiological Physics; American Board of Radiology in Medical Physics; American Board of Science in Nuclear Medicine – Nuclear Medicine Physics & Instrumentation; American Board of Medical Physics in Magnetic Imaging Resonance Physics.

Experience:
A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required. The candidate must qualify as a Radiation Safety Officer for Broad Scope Radioactive Materials License with specific technologies.
