The Mortgage Operations Manager oversees the daily functions of Mortgage Disclosures, Processing, and Closing within the Retail and Bank Credit Union sectors. This role involves managing single-family operations for various processes including Retail, BCU Wholesale, and BCU Mini Correspondent.

A successful Mortgage Operations Manager will lead all aspects of Retail and BCU Mortgage Operations related to single-family mortgage disclosures, processing, and closing activities, ensuring alignment with business objectives and adherence to regulatory standards. The role demands effective leadership to cultivate a high-performing team that delivers superior disclosing, processing, closing, and overall mortgage lending results, minimizing compliance, credit, and operational risks while enhancing customer satisfaction.

Success Indicators for the Mortgage Operations Manager

  • Oversee the single-family retail mortgage operations and BCU Wholesale processes from the moment a Loan Officer submits a live application until the loan is closed.
  • Supervise Disclosures Analysts, Processors, and Closers throughout the Retail and BCU processes (including Wholesale and Mini Correspondent).
  • Establish and maintain quality control measures to ensure compliance with established quality standards across all mortgage operations functions.
  • Conduct regular quality assessments on the work performed by team members to ensure ongoing quality expectations are met or surpassed.
  • Track and manage the timeliness and quality of disclosures, processing, and closing pipelines, providing regular status updates to management as required.
  • Ensure that systems and files are maintained in an audit-ready state to support ongoing compliance efforts.
  • Coordinate responses to internal and external audits in collaboration with other mortgage staff.
  • Train departmental employees on compliance and credit issues, ensuring that departmental standards and regulations are consistently met.
  • Accountable for the overall performance of the single-family mortgage processing function, including compliance and credit metrics.
  • Deliver exceptional service to both internal and external clients.
  • Manage vendor relationships and address any issues through the appropriate channels.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in mortgage banking with a comprehensive understanding of single-family mortgage disclosures, processing, and closing in both TPO and Retail Channels.
  • Advanced experience in utilizing and managing loan processing systems.
  • Proven track record of effectively managing teams and personnel.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is preferred, or significant relevant experience may be considered.
  • In-depth knowledge of agency and regulatory guidelines relevant to mortgage lending responsibilities.
  • Ability to identify, interpret, and apply applicable underwriting guidelines in managing lending and processing procedures.
  • Skilled in resolving complex loan structure issues and collaborating with management to find favorable customer solutions.
  • Proficient in basic computer software such as Microsoft Office, Encompass, and Blue Sage, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in collaboration with IT or administrative teams.
  • Compliance with SAFE Act guidelines may be required.
