Position Overview

As a Mortgage Processing Specialist, you will play a crucial role in the efficient and precise handling of mortgage loan applications. Your primary duties will involve collecting customer information, collaborating with loan officers to facilitate client interactions, and ensuring that all loan documentation adheres to company standards and investor requirements. You will also engage in preliminary underwriting for investor loans and comprehensive underwriting for portfolio loans. Your proactive approach will be essential in maintaining the momentum of loans throughout the processing pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be expected to:

  • Take complete responsibility for the loan file from the completion of disclosures to the closing of the loan. Engage with borrowers on retail loans, or act as the designated agent for wholesale loans.
  • Support the Disclosure team as needed to ensure compliance with TRID and other relevant regulations.
  • Order necessary services, including but not limited to flood checks, appraisals, fraud assessments, title verifications, and other requirements dictated by the product and underwriting guidelines.
  • Evaluate documents submitted by borrowers to confirm their adequacy.
  • Analyze credit reports and request further information from borrowers or credit providers as necessary.
  • Submit files to the Automated Underwriting System, compare outcomes with documentation, and request any additional items needed for underwriting.
  • Calculate financial ratios for loan requests to ensure compliance with lending standards.
  • Review the file for a complete initial submission, consulting with your manager on any questions, and submit the complete loan package to underwriting.
  • Request and submit any additional conditions required by underwriting, ensuring clarity on conditions by consulting with the Underwriter or your manager prior to submission.
  • Maintain effective communication by conducting periodic file reviews with the Loan Officer and keeping borrowers informed through their preferred communication methods, starting with a welcoming call.
  • Stay informed about compliance, regulatory changes, product updates, and underwriting guidelines.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years of experience in mortgage banking, specifically in mortgage origination, closing, or processing.
  • Familiarity with standard mortgage documentation.
  • A high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution is required.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the capability to prioritize tasks independently to meet deadlines.
  • A customer service-oriented mindset with clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook is essential.
