General Laborer

Position Title: General Laborer Department: Operations
Objective: Execute a range of general labor and support tasks across various District facilities.
Reporting To: Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.
Key Responsibilities:
- Empty tanks and clean plant facilities, tanks, and equipment using hoses, scrubbing, and scraping techniques.
- Manage sludge pumping, assist with loading and unloading trucks, and maintain cleanliness of drains, ditches, and culverts.
- Remove debris, grit, and screenings from headworks as required.
- Perform landscaping duties including mowing, trimming bushes, raking leaves, and general maintenance of grounds and buildings. Ensure equipment is maintained.
- Prepare surfaces for painting and carry out painting tasks on equipment, piping, walls, and panels as assigned.
- Clear snow from pathways and roads, applying salt as necessary, while maintaining equipment.
- Assist in carrying or holding materials, supplies, or tools.
- Change light bulbs and diffusers as needed.
- Support maintenance and operational staff as required.
- Conduct basic housekeeping tasks including trash collection and disposal.
- Wash and maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Transport equipment and supplies as needed using District vehicles.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires physical capabilities typically associated with labor tasks.
Ability to lift weights up to 1 lb. for 15% of the time, 1 lb. to 5 lbs. for 15% to 40% of the time, and up to 25 lbs. for 15% of the time, potentially carrying items over long distances. Lifting weights over 25 lbs. may be required up to 15% of the time.
Environmental Conditions:
Work may be performed indoors, outdoors, or both, with exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, noise, vibrations, and various hazards.
Qualifications:
Knowledge: Ability to understand both oral and written instructions in English. High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Experience: Previous experience as a laborer or utility worker is highly desirable.
Equipment and Tools: Familiarity with skid steer loaders, forklifts, lawn care equipment, pressure washers, power tools, and safety equipment is essential.
Licenses/Certifications: Candidates must be legally authorized to operate a motor vehicle for work-related purposes.
