Job Overview

As a pivotal figure in the management of juvenile casework, this role involves overseeing the personnel and operations of the assigned unit. The incumbent ensures adherence to relevant State and Federal regulations, alongside departmental policies. Responsibilities include conducting research, developing programs, and establishing the unit's objectives. The position may entail managing a caseload and providing direct oversight of youth in secure environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Directs the daily activities of staff responsible for supervising and monitoring juvenile clients. This includes hiring, training, and evaluating employee performance, as well as addressing performance issues.
  • Organizes and prioritizes workloads, ensuring compliance with laws and departmental procedures.
  • Assesses and recommends modifications to office policies and procedures, while assisting in operational analysis and budget preparation.
  • Offers guidance to staff on complex client matters and oversees program development to meet specialized needs.
  • Maintains accurate case files and oversees case management systems, ensuring quality service delivery.
  • Handles complaints from clients and stakeholders, working to resolve issues effectively.
  • Collaborates with other divisions and represents the department in inter-agency coordination.
  • May perform administrative tasks and facilitate staff meetings.
  • Ensures a safe and secure environment for clients in secure facilities, implementing corrective measures as necessary.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Social or Behavioral Sciences, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Counseling, Education, Criminal Justice, or a related field, along with four years of relevant experience in social services or juvenile agencies, including supervisory experience.

Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Texas Driver's License required. Certification as a Juvenile Probation Officer and Juvenile Supervision Officer or eligibility for certification within six months of hire is necessary.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Understanding of family law and the court system.
  • Familiarity with management principles and practices.
  • Proficient in computer applications relevant to the role.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
Work Environment
This position may involve exposure to challenging situations and requires the ability to manage stress effectively. Physical demands include the capacity to lift and carry items, as well as prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
