Job Overview:


The role involves assisting patients in navigating their financial responsibilities regarding self-pay portions of their accounts. You will educate patients about the financial policies of the healthcare facility and ensure the collection of necessary deposits from patients and their guarantors.

This position may require on-call duties and overtime as necessary.

Key Responsibilities


Safeguard the financial integrity of the healthcare organization by aiding patients in establishing financial arrangements for their accounts.

Generate financial responsibility estimates for patients prior to service, during registration, or upon management request.
Collect payments for current or overdue accounts during pre-registration, registration, or discharge processes.

Conduct financial evaluations, utilizing tools to assess the guarantor's ability to pay, and assist in creating payment plans within the patient accounting system for both current and overdue balances.

Screen patients through a series of financial inquiries to assess potential eligibility for financial assistance, adhering to the established Patient Financial Assistance policy.

Facilitate the application process for the Patient Financial Assistance program for eligible accounts, providing patients with essential information regarding the program's background, timelines, and expectations.

Refer patients to eligibility contractors when appropriate for alternative payment sources.
Document all interactions and relevant developments in the patient accounting system.
Engage in special projects as assigned by management within designated timeframes.
Participate in ongoing education and training related to applicable information systems relevant to collections and counseling.
Maintain a compassionate and professional demeanor towards all patients, family members, visitors, and hospital staff.
Ensure confidentiality of patient health information and departmental data at all times.
Foster a positive work environment and uphold professionalism consistently.

Comply with the organization's compliance plan and policies, as well as all applicable regulations set forth by accrediting bodies and local, state, and federal authorities.

Undertake additional duties or projects as required or directed.

Qualifications



EDUCATION:
High School Diploma is required; an Associate's degree in a healthcare-related field is preferred.

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION: Not applicable



EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 1 year in healthcare patient accounting is preferred.
