Job Overview:


The role involves assisting patients in establishing financial arrangements regarding their self-pay obligations; educating patients about hospital financial policies; and collecting necessary deposits from patients and their guarantors.

The employee may be required to be on call and work overtime as necessary for the hospital's needs.

Key Responsibilities


Safeguard the hospital's financial integrity and minimize uncompensated care by aiding patients in arranging their financial responsibilities.

Calculate patients' financial obligations prior to, during, or upon request from management.
Collect payments for current or overdue accounts during pre-registration, registration, or discharge.

Conduct financial evaluations, utilizing tools to assess the guarantor's ability to pay, and assist in setting up payment plans within the patient accounting system for both current and overdue balances.

Screen patients with a series of financial inquiries to assess potential eligibility for financial assistance, adhering to the guidelines outlined in the Management Guidebook policy #8170, Patient Financial Assistance.

Assist in the application process for the Patient Financial Assistance program for eligible patient accounts, informing patients about the program's background, timelines, and expectations.

Facilitate referrals to eligibility contractors for patients deemed suitable for alternative payment sources.
Document all interactions and relevant developments in the patient accounting system.
Engage in special projects as assigned by management within designated timeframes.
Participate in ongoing education and training related to all applicable information systems relevant to collections and counseling duties.
Maintain a compassionate and respectful demeanor towards all patients, family members, visitors, and hospital staff.
Ensure the confidentiality of patient health information and departmental data at all times.
Foster a positive and professional environment consistently.

Comply with the WTH compliance plan and policies, as well as all applicable regulations set forth by accrediting bodies and local, state, and federal agencies.

Undertake additional duties or projects as required or directed.

Qualifications



EDUCATION:
 High School Diploma is required; an Associate's degree in a healthcare-related field is preferred.

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION: N/A



EXPERIENCE:
 A minimum of 1 year in healthcare patient accounting is preferred.
