The role involves assisting patients in establishing financial arrangements for their self-pay responsibilities; educating patients about hospital financial policies; and collecting necessary deposits from patients and their guarantors.
Key Responsibilities
Safeguard the financial integrity of the healthcare facility and minimize unnecessary uncompensated care by aiding patients in organizing their financial obligations.
Collect payments owed on current or overdue accounts during pre-registration, registration, or discharge.
Conduct financial evaluations, utilizing tools to assess the guarantor's ability to pay, and assist in creating payment plans within the patient accounting system for both current and overdue balances.
Screen patients through a series of financial inquiries to assess potential eligibility for financial assistance, adhering to the established Patient Financial Assistance policy.
Facilitate applications for the Patient Financial Assistance program for eligible patient accounts, and inform patients about the program's general background, timelines, and expectations.
Refer patients to eligibility contractors if they qualify for alternative payment sources.Document all interactions and relevant information in the patient accounting system.
Engage in special projects as assigned by management within designated timeframes.
Participate in ongoing education and training for all relevant information systems related to collections and counseling duties.
Consistently demonstrate a compassionate and courteous demeanor towards all patients, family members, visitors, and hospital staff.
Maintain confidentiality of patient health information and departmental data at all times.
Foster and uphold a positive attitude and professional environment consistently.
Comply with the organization's compliance plan and policies, as well as all applicable regulations set forth by accrediting bodies and local, state, and federal agencies.
Perform and engage in additional duties or projects as required or directed.Qualifications
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma required; Associate's degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION: N/A
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 1-year experience in healthcare patient accounting preferred.
