We are currently looking for:

An Aquatic Programs Coordinator to join the Recreation department, assisting the Recreation Manager in the operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems for aquatic facilities, including pools and splash pads. This role encompasses the management of water filtration and chemical purification systems, ensuring that all equipment operates within safety and quality standards.


Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Collaborating with Recreation Supervisors and Managers to coordinate and oversee recreational activities and programs, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws, policies, and regulations.
  2. Assisting in the daily operations of the pool, which includes staffing, chemical testing, managing the mechanical room, and providing lifeguard training (if certified).
  3. Supervising and training part-time staff and volunteers, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures.
  4. Supporting administrative tasks such as data entry, budget tracking, and program reporting, while maintaining an inventory of supplies.
  5. Traveling to various aquatic locations to ensure consistent operations.
  6. Responding to inquiries regarding the aquatic center and splash pad maintenance, supervising guests, and enforcing safety regulations.
  7. Adjusting chemical balances as necessary, including the addition of chemicals and calculating appropriate dosages for sanitation.
  8. Assisting with maintenance tasks in other recreational facilities during the off-season.
  9. Engaging with the public and community organizations to promote and coordinate program activities.
  10. Identifying and reporting unsafe conditions or incidents.
  11. Maintaining regular and punctual attendance.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of pool and splash pad operations, including chemical management and equipment maintenance.
  • Experience with filtration systems, UV sanitation, and automated chemical feeders.
  • Understanding of chemical safety and water quality management.
  • Effective communication skills with supervisors and maintenance teams.
  • Ability to maintain chemical balance through routine testing.
  • Capability to keep facilities organized and free of hazards.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including on-call shifts.
  • Timely response to service requests.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and adjusting aquatic systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

A High School Diploma or GED is required. An Associate's Degree in Recreation, Business, or Public Administration is preferred, along with one year of relevant experience in recreation and aquatic facility management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license.
  • First Aid and CPR certifications are mandatory; additional technical certifications may be required.
  • Lifeguard certification is necessary or must be obtained within three months of employment.
  • Lifeguard instructor certification is advantageous.
  • Certified Pool Operator certification is required or must be obtained within two months of employment.

Knowledge of:

  • City policies and procedures.
  • Relevant federal, state, and local laws governing public recreational facilities.
  • Legal responsibilities of recreation services staff.
  • Occupational safety and health standards.
  • Community resources and regional service programs.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Work occurs in various City recreation facilities, including outdoor environments under different weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds is required.
