We are currently looking for:

An Aquatic Programs Coordinator to join the Recreation division, assisting the Recreation Manager in the operation, maintenance, and cleanliness of mechanical systems for aquatic facilities, including pools and splash pads. This role encompasses overseeing water filtration and chemical treatment systems, ensuring that all equipment operates efficiently and adheres to safety and quality standards.


Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Collaborating with Recreation Supervisors and Managers to organize and oversee recreational activities and programs; ensuring compliance with relevant laws, policies, and regulations. Duties may vary based on specific assignments.
  2. Supporting pool operations, which includes staffing, chemical testing, managing the mechanical room, instructing lifeguard training sessions (if certified), and conducting in-service training for lifeguards.
  3. Supervising and mentoring part-time and volunteer personnel, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
  4. Assisting with administrative tasks such as data entry, tracking expenditures, revenue management, and program reporting and marketing. Keeping an updated inventory of supplies and materials.
  5. Traveling to various splash pad locations and the aquatic center during operational hours to ensure consistent functionality.
  6. Addressing inquiries and concerns related to the aquatic center and splash pad maintenance. Overseeing program participants and activities, enforcing safety rules and regulations within municipal facilities.
  7. Adjusting chemical levels as necessary, including the addition of chemicals and calculating proper dosages to meet sanitation standards.
  8. Contributing to maintenance tasks in other recreational facilities during the off-season.
  9. Engaging with the public, community resource organizations, and other entities to coordinate and promote recreational programs.
  10. Identifying, avoiding, and reporting unsafe practices, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
  11. Maintaining regular and punctual attendance.

Required/Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of pool and splash pad operations, including chemical management, gauges, flow meters, sand filters, and backwashing techniques.
  • Familiarity with filtration pumps, UV sanitation systems, and automated chemical dispensing systems.
  • Understanding of chemical properties, particularly bleach and acid, and their impact on water quality.
  • Ability to promote and enforce safe working practices.
  • Effective communication skills with supervisors, facility maintenance staff, and external aquatic resources regarding operations.
  • Maintaining chemical balance in aquatic facilities through routine testing and alerts.
  • Ensuring pump houses and splash pads are free from clutter and debris.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including on-call as needed.
  • Timely response to service requests.
  • Diagnosing and adjusting aquatic systems as required.
  • Capability to travel to different locations as necessary.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

A High School Diploma or GED is required. An Associate's Degree in Recreation, Business, or Public Administration is preferred, along with one year of experience in the recreation sector and familiarity with pool/splash pad operations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Licenses or Certifications:

  • Possession of a valid Texas Driver's License.
  • For applicants with an out-of-state driver's license, an original certified driving record from the state of licensure is required.
  • First Aid and CPR certifications are mandatory; some positions may require specific technical certifications.
  • Lifeguard certification is required or must be obtained within three months of hire.
  • Lifeguard instructor certification is advantageous.
  • Certified Pool Operator certification is required or must be obtained within two months of employment.

Knowledge of:

  • City policies and procedures.
  • Federal, State, and local laws, ordinances, and regulations governing public recreational facilities and programs.
  • Legal responsibilities and liabilities for recreation services staff.
  • Occupational hazards and safety measures.
  • Local community resources and regional service programs.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Work is conducted at City recreation facilities and venues, with some outdoor tasks in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 75 pounds.
