The City of San Angelo Texas is looking for a dedicated Aquatic Programs Coordinator to join our Recreation department. This role involves supporting the Recreation Manager in the operation, maintenance, and cleanliness of mechanical systems associated with pools and splash pads. The successful candidate will ensure that water filtration and chemical purification systems function effectively, adhering to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Recreation Supervisors and Managers to plan and oversee recreational activities and programs, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and policies.
- Assist in managing pool operations, including staffing, chemical testing, and conducting lifeguard training sessions (if certified).
- Supervise and mentor part-time and volunteer personnel, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures.
- Support administrative tasks such as data entry, financial tracking, and program marketing while maintaining an inventory of supplies.
- Travel to various aquatic locations to ensure consistent operational standards.
- Address inquiries related to the aquatic center and splash pad maintenance, supervising guests and enforcing safety regulations.
- Adjust chemical levels as necessary, including the addition of chemicals and calculating appropriate dosages.
- Assist with maintenance tasks in other recreational facilities during off-peak seasons.
- Engage with the community and partner organizations to promote recreational programs.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions or incidents promptly.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
A High School Diploma or GED is required. An Associate's Degree in Recreation, Business, or Public Administration is preferred, along with one year of relevant experience in recreation and pool management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid Texas Driver's License.
- First Aid and CPR certifications are mandatory; additional technical certifications may be required.
- Lifeguard certification is necessary or must be obtained within three months of hire.
- Certified Pool Operator certification is required or must be acquired within two months of employment.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of pool and splash pad operations, including chemical management and equipment maintenance.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
- Proficiency in maintaining chemical balance through routine testing.
- Capability to work flexible hours and respond to service calls as needed.
- Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and adjust aquatic systems.
Work Environment:
- This position involves work at various city recreation facilities, with some outdoor responsibilities in varying weather conditions.
- Physical demands include the ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
