GENERAL OVERVIEW: Under the general oversight of the Pool Manager and Assistant Pool Manager, the Aquatic Safety Officer is tasked with overseeing swimming activities at the Municipal Pool. This role requires the officer to uphold discipline among patrons by enforcing aquatic facility regulations and vigilantly monitoring for safety.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and effective rescue methods for patrons within the aquatic environment.
  • Provide first aid or CPR as per established guidelines and alert emergency medical services when necessary.
  • Support front desk operations through positive interactions with the public.
  • Conduct basic maintenance tasks to ensure public safety, including cleaning hazardous materials from pool areas.
  • Assist in the daily management of the Municipal Pool, which includes opening and closing procedures, guest assistance, sharing program information, and fee collection.
  • Participate in all scheduled training sessions and evaluations.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Pool Manager and Assistant Pool Manager.
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday, including weekends and holidays, with a potential schedule of up to 40 hours per week, varying from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm.
  • This is a seasonal position.
  • Consistent and punctual attendance is mandatory.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
Licenses or Certifications Required:
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard or Shallow Water Lifeguard certification is mandatory.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is essential.
  • Water Safety Instructor Certification is preferred.
  • Reliable transportation or a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is necessary.
Knowledge Required:
  • Understanding of Parks and Recreation Department operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with municipal aquatic facilities and services.
  • Knowledge of lifeguarding principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in rescue techniques and First Aid/CPR/AED methods.
  • Awareness of customer service standards and protocols.
  • Processes for maintaining and cleaning pool facilities.
Skills Required:
  • Ability to serve as a lifeguard and ensure swimmer safety.
  • Capability to explain and enforce pool regulations.
  • Proficiency in administering First Aid and CPR, including AED usage.
  • Experience in preparing departmental records and reports.
  • Participation in cleaning and maintaining pool facilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, patrons, and the public.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
  • Capacity to perform strenuous tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Must successfully pass physical assessments.
