Job Overview
  • Oversee, organize, and lead all engineering, project management, and maintenance operations within the manufacturing facility. Responsible for managing a team of employees engaged in maintenance and engineering tasks through Supervisors and Managers.
  • Coordinate and direct the design, layout, installation, and upkeep of the facility, its support systems, and production machinery in a cost-effective manner, adhering to corporate, production, and regulatory standards.
  • Develop and manage project and maintenance timelines, ensuring efficient plant operations and continuous maintenance support.
  • Set and communicate performance targets for evaluating departmental efficiency, such as downtime, repair expenses, parts costs, inventory levels, and labor hours. Monitor progress and provide guidance to supervisors and managers to meet these objectives.
  • Identify and engage vendors for construction projects, maintenance supplies, and external services. Negotiate pricing and obtain final approval from the Plant Manager.
  • Research, propose, and implement improvements to the facility, utilities, processes, and equipment to reduce costs, enhance product quality, and improve operational efficiency in alignment with facility goals.
  • Provide technical support to production teams; diagnose issues and recommend solutions to enhance operational effectiveness through better equipment management.
  • Ensure the maintenance of accurate and compliant records related to maintenance activities, equipment, engineering, procurement, and regulatory interactions.
  • Monitor utility consumption; identify excessive usage and implement strategies to reduce costs.
  • Collaborate closely with the Plant Manager to formulate the capital budget and provide insights on engineering, procurement, and installation needs for capital projects.
  • Participate in various cross-functional teams aimed at process improvement within the organization and assist other company facilities as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory, governmental, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Prepare regular and special reports on project progress, costs, downtime, maintenance activities, and other pertinent matters.
  • Guide, motivate, discipline, train, and effectively manage the performance of both hourly and salaried team members.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred, or equivalent experience gained through professional practice.
  • A minimum of seven years of experience managing maintenance or engineering teams, preferably within the food industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations applicable to the construction, maintenance, and operation of manufacturing facilities and their equipment.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze various blueprints, schematics, and related documentation.
  • Familiarity with safety and environmental regulations and best operational practices.
  • Proficient in managing complex installation and modification projects involving significant capital investments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with peers, management, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to supervise and direct the work of others to achieve set goals and objectives.
  • Work is typically conducted in a manufacturing environment, which may involve exposure to varying temperatures and requires appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • While performing job duties, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, walk, use hands or fingers, talk, hear, and may need to lift up to 50 pounds. Close vision for computer screen use is necessary.
