Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Grocery Department Manager Trainee to join our team at 99 Ranch Market. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for overseeing the operation of the Grocery department, ensuring excellent customer service, and driving sales and financial performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Department Operation: Oversee the daily operation of the Grocery department, including product preparation, display, and inventory control.
  • Customer Service: Ensure that department team members provide exceptional customer service, address customer complaints, and implement action plans to improve customer satisfaction.
  • Sales and Financial Performance: Drive department sales to achieve sales and margin targets, control labor and stock loss, and analyze sales data to inform business decisions.
  • Inventory Management: Use our inventory management system to track product sales and inventory, ensure accurate inventory numbers, and conduct regular physical inventory counts.
  • Employee Management: Supervise, delegate, and schedule tasks to employees, provide constructive feedback, and recommend disciplinary actions, transfers, promotions, and rate increases.
  • Omni Channel Services: Assist in supervising and performing omni channel services and initiatives, including accounting, administrative, maintenance, and marketing duties.
  • Ordering and Receiving: Make reasonable product ordering decisions, check product quality and quantity upon receipt, and ensure timely delivery of products to the sales floor.
  • Stocking and Processing: Distribute, refill, and rotate deliveries, products, and stock room using First-In-First-Out (FIFO) methods to meet customer needs and manage product cutting, trimming, and packing.
  • Display and Merchandising: Manage and decorate stores with attractive product displays and proper signage to showcase freshness and quality, create and distribute promotional materials, and ensure accurate shelf tags.
  • Cash Handling and Product Returns: Lead and execute all cash handling and product return procedures, complete the check-out process accurately and efficiently, and handle expired and recalled products to reduce waste.
  • Compliance, Loss Prevention, and Reporting: Control, safeguard, and monitor all store department assets, help implement company policies and procedures, and report any department accidents, urgent notices, or other violations or incidents.
  • Safety and Maintenance: Maintain and ensure safe and sanitary working environments throughout the store and department, comply with internal procedures and safety codes, and perform regular equipment maintenance and cleaning.
  • Sustainability: Manage the expiration dates of products to take expired products off the shelves and order new ones on time to refill and replenish products to meet customer demands.
  • Promotion and Demo: Follow company procedures to plan for promotion events, prepare the appropriate amount of products, set reasonable prices to increase sales, and arrange demos when necessary.
Requirements
  • 1 year of supervisory experience in the grocery department or equivalent is required.
  • Bilingual in English/Mandarin, English/Cantonese, or English/Spanish is preferred.
  • Ability to work assigned schedules, including weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Currently possess or have the ability to possess a Food Handler's certificate.

  • Knowledge and understanding of employment laws, including compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.

Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking are required.
  • Ability to use manual dexterity to grasp, manipulate, and assemble objects.
  • Ability to work in an environment that may be wet and dry and with varying temperatures and noises.
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds at times or more with appropriate equipment.
  • Must be able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
