Position Summary: The Transport Coordinator for Shelter Services is tasked with the safe and comfortable transportation of families to and from the shelter. This role involves assisting families with various transportation needs and coordinating logistics with the shelter team. When not engaged in driving duties, the Transport Coordinator will support the overall functioning of the shelter.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely transport families to and from designated locations using the shelter's passenger transport vehicle.
  • Plan and optimize driving routes for efficiency prior to scheduled transport.
  • Comply with the shelter's operational policies and procedures.
  • Maintain regular communication with shelter leadership and staff regarding transportation matters.
  • Utilize the shelter's mobile phone during transport to coordinate trip logistics.
  • Promptly report any issues related to the transport vehicle, whether client-related or maintenance concerns.
  • Inform families of any delays in pick-up or drop-off times.
  • Assist families in entering and exiting the transport vehicle as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including the use of car seats and seat belts.
  • Document each trip, including details such as mileage and locations.
  • Adhere to state and national road regulations and standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper upkeep of the transport vehicle.
  • Ensure the vehicle has adequate fuel for trips and refill as necessary.
  • Complete necessary documentation, including logs and participant reports.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Shelter Manager and Director of Shelter Operations.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Previous driving experience is preferred.
  • Training in CPR, First Aid, and other direct support training will be provided.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy and understand the needs of homeless families.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to set boundaries in a supportive manner.
  • Ability to think creatively and respond effectively to crises.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor at all times.
  • Willingness to work with a diverse population.
