Position Summary: The Family Transport Specialist is tasked with safely and comfortably transporting families to and from the shelter. This role involves assisting families with various transportation needs and coordinating logistics with the shelter team. When not engaged in driving duties, the specialist will support the overall operations of the shelter.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transport families to and from designated locations using the shelter's passenger transport vehicle.
- Prepare and map driving routes to ensure the most efficient travel prior to scheduled transports.
- Adhere to the shelter's policies and procedures.
- Coordinate and communicate regularly with shelter leadership and staff regarding transportation matters.
- Utilize a shelter mobile phone during transport to manage trip logistics.
- Promptly report any issues related to the transport vehicle, whether client or maintenance-related.
- Notify families of any delays in pick-up or drop-off times.
- Assist families in and out of the transport vehicle as needed.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including the use of car seats and seat belts.
- Document each trip, including details such as destinations and mileage.
- Comply with state and national road regulations and standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper maintenance of the transport vehicle.
- Ensure the vehicle has adequate fuel for trips and refill as necessary.
- Complete necessary documentation, including logs, mileage, and participant reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Shelter Manager and Director of Shelter Operations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Clean Driving Record.
- Preferred experience as a driver.
- Training in CPR and First Aid will be provided, along with other direct support training opportunities.
- Ability to demonstrate compassion and understand the needs of homeless families.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to set limits in a fair and supportive manner.
- Ability to think creatively and respond to crises quickly and calmly.
- Maintain a polite and professional demeanor at all times.
- Willingness to work with a diverse population.
