About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Water Discipline team at Colliers Engineering & Design. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing projects related to the repair and upgrade of hydroelectric generators, breakers, transformers, and auxiliary systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage projects for the repair and/or upgrade of hydroelectric generators, breakers, transformers, and auxiliary systems
  • Lead the design effort for upgrade/replacement of hydroelectric auxiliary electrical systems
  • Direct the development of bid documents (plans, specs, and cost estimates)
  • Develop or provide input on design effort for proposals
  • Mentor junior staff
  • Review/edit/write technical reports
  • Review/edit/write technical specifications
  • Develop design criteria for projects
  • Oversee teams of drafters to prepare design drawings
  • Perform QA/QC by verifying design methodology, calculations, outcomes, etc.
  • Lead field inspections and surveys in support of repair, design, and construction efforts
  • Develop design alternatives
  • Assist project managers and leaders as needed in the creation of proposals, client information, and designs
  • Develop training materials for clients and provide technical advice
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
  • Professional engineer licensure preferred (or desire to become licensed)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, with emphasis on medium and high voltage equipment and auxiliary electrical systems preferred
  • Knowledge of rotating equipment (generators, motors)
  • Knowledge in the design of auxiliary electrical systems (protective relaying, instrumentation, and control systems, station service)
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles and how to apply them to design of electrical systems and equipment
  • A desire to work on a variety of project types
  • A desire to work in a collaborative team environment to learn from and teach others
  • A desire to work hands-on such as field and manufacturing shop inspections
  • CAD (AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit) skills are a plus
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Work on US Army Corps of Engineers projects or familiarity with Corps design guidelines is a plus
