Position Overview

The Transfer Support Specialist will report directly to the Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. This role is pivotal in guiding students through the transfer process, ensuring a smooth transition from Community College to the City College of New York (CCNY). The specialist will provide comprehensive advising, coaching, and academic support to college transfer students via the 1847 Academy. Collaboration with Community College Transfer Advisors is essential, as well as conducting activities designed to facilitate students' transitions from application to enrollment at CCNY, including assistance with major changes when necessary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct academic counseling for transfer students during the pre-enrollment phase.
  • Provide advising and coaching for transfer students throughout their initial semester at CCNY.
  • Work alongside the Career and Professional Development Institute (CPDI) to support transfer students in exploring career options and selecting majors.
  • Lead both individual and group advising sessions tailored to the needs of transfer students.
  • Assess student needs and deliver personalized assistance while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Utilize creativity and innovation in executing responsibilities.
  • Identify and implement enhanced methodologies, policies, and procedures to promote the success of transfer students.
  • Collaborate with academic affairs and student services to assist students in declaring majors and selecting suitable courses.
  • Monitor student performance and intervene as necessary; address any issues related to curricular requirements.
Additional Duties
  • Provide students with information regarding support services, college policies, and program guidelines.
  • Facilitate workshops and assist with departmental activities.
  • Maintain student advisement records and prepare reports and analyses of activities.
  • May supervise junior advising and/or administrative staff.
  • Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher, with a minimum of three years of experience in a higher education setting.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Understanding of the community college student demographic.
  • Willingness to travel to Community Colleges for in-person engagement with transfer students.
