Community Support Specialist

Under the supervision of the Regional Coordinator, the Community Support Specialist delivers direct assistance, skill enhancement, and community resource connections to individuals facing psychiatric and/or substance use challenges. The role is focused on empowering individuals to achieve independence and work towards their fullest potential. The Community Support Specialist will primarily operate in the field (70-80%), engaging with individuals to assess their service plans and needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize a person-centered collaborative approach to equip individuals with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary for independent living, while addressing any urgent issues that may arise.
- Assist individuals in navigating the 8 dimensions of wellness, including but not limited to: housing stability, emotional well-being, physical health, social connections, employment opportunities, and educational aspirations.
- Contribute to the formulation and execution of personalized service plans.
- Advocate for and foster community-based support systems.
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule during weekends, with additional compensation for on-call duties and any necessary outreach.
Compensation: $21.63 per hour based on qualifications and experience
Eligible for Benefits (Medical, complimentary DMO dental & vision) including 6 weeks of Paid Time Off & 11 Holidays
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday
- Full-time | 40 hours per week
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of relevant work or life experience or
- Bachelor's degree in a mental health-related field.
- Ability to compose clear, concise, and accurate billable progress notes.
- Exceptional time management skills to effectively support multiple individuals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficient in MS Office applications and general computer skills.
- Capacity to engage with individuals experiencing mental health challenges in a compassionate and professional manner.
- Bilingual capabilities are a plus.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Lived Experience: CSPNJ prioritizes hiring individuals who draw from their own experiences with mental health/substance use challenges to inspire and assist others.
