Position Title: Senior Legal Executive
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Team Overview:

The Legal Division at Lifestyle Communities plays a crucial role in the organization, collaborating with essential teams and stakeholders to ensure the company is well-positioned for future growth.

The Senior Legal Executive will oversee a proactive team dedicated to delivering legal counsel and support across all departments. This includes offering strategic insights regarding the company’s capital acquisition efforts and associated frameworks; reviewing, drafting, and negotiating operational agreements and transactional documents; conducting legal analysis and preparing reports; and managing and advising on potential risks and liabilities, among other duties.


Candidate Profile:

In the role of Senior Legal Executive, you will be tasked with providing comprehensive legal guidance, oversight, and strategic direction for Lifestyle Communities' business entities and the personal affairs of the owners.

Your responsibilities will encompass corporate transactions, financing, joint ventures, litigation, and real estate development matters. You will serve as a legal consultant on compliance issues, risk mitigation, and safeguarding the interests of the organization and the personal family business in all real estate dealings and family-related matters.


Impact of Your Role:

Deliver expert legal counsel and strategic direction concerning multifamily and single-family residential development issues, including joint ventures, debt financing, acquisitions, and sales.

Formulate and execute legal strategies to protect the interests of the organization and the personal family office, ensuring adherence to applicable laws and regulations.

Supervise the negotiation, drafting, and execution of intricate agreements, including joint venture contracts, debt financing agreements, and other legal documents.

Lead the structuring, negotiation, collaboration, and execution of joint ventures with equity partners, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic goals and risk management practices.

Collaborate closely with the internal finance team, lenders, financial institutions, and other stakeholders to secure funding and negotiate favorable terms for multifamily development initiatives.

Act as the primary legal advisor to the family business on personal and business matters, including estate planning, asset protection, and succession planning, while working with tax advisors to ensure optimal transaction structures.

Conduct regular assessments and audits to evaluate legal risks and propose appropriate mitigation strategies.

Manage the internal Legal Division, including the organization, distribution of responsibilities, and activities of the team.


Qualifications:

Possess a strong understanding and experience in real estate development, construction, operations, and financing, along with a proven track record in creating innovative capital structures to meet the company’s growth objectives.

Demonstrated experience in managing litigation, negotiating, and drafting complex contracts, and providing strategic legal advice.

Extensive background in real estate law, particularly in joint venture structuring and debt transactions.

Ability to identify and evaluate business and legal risks, think strategically, and propose legally sound, reasoned, and practical solutions aligned with business objectives.

Strong business acumen with the capability to align legal strategies with the overall goals of the organization.

Proven ability to engage in and finalize transactions efficiently while balancing business expectations with legal and regulatory compliance requirements.

Demonstrated desire to act as a player-coach in managing the legal affairs of the organization, including personally addressing high-priority strategic matters.

Ability to fulfill legal department initiatives, develop legal processes, forms, and tools, and effectively interface with senior management.

Understanding of financial and non-financial performance drivers.

Unwavering integrity and ethics; must be highly trustworthy.

Strong leadership skills and prior experience managing a team, with the ability to inspire, develop, and mentor team members.

Proficient problem solver with a results-oriented mindset.

Collaborative approach to work effectively with other Lifestyle business units and affiliates.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel is essential.

High level of organization, self-direction, and self-motivation.


Reporting Structure:

This position will report directly to the CEO of the organization. All members of the legal division will report to this position in a structure designed to achieve the outlined objectives.


Essential Qualifications:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

A minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience as a Senior Legal Executive, General Counsel, or in a comparable senior legal role within a privately held company or law firm specializing in real estate development.

Experience representing high-net-worth individuals or families is preferred.
