Position Overview
The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities is seeking a dedicated Senior Legal Advisor to provide expert legal guidance and support within the realm of education law. This role involves collaborating closely with the Superintendent of Public Instruction to navigate complex legal frameworks and ensure compliance with educational policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the formulation of administrative regulations and policies.
- Manage and respond to requests for public records, ensuring transparency and adherence to legal standards.
- Engage in administrative hearings related to educational matters, including land transfers and student exclusions.
- Support the Chief Legal Counsel in addressing various legal inquiries and issues faced by the department.
Legal Research and Documentation
Conduct thorough legal research and draft essential documents, including:
- Legal opinions and memoranda.
- Reports and decisions as required by agency personnel.
- Legislative analysis pertaining to educational policies and practices.
- Policy recommendations to enhance operational effectiveness.
Additional Duties
Provide legal support and advice to various divisions within the department, ensuring that all operations align with applicable laws and regulations.
Qualifications
Applicants must be admitted to the Ohio Bar and possess a minimum of 12 months of experience as a licensed attorney, with at least 6 months of experience in employee training and development.
Skills Required
Proficiency in legal analysis, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain confidentiality are essential for success in this role.
