Cardiovascular Intensive Care Nurse

This specialized unit comprises 16 beds dedicated to cardiovascular and cardiothoracic patient care. The primary focus is on the recovery of patients following open-heart surgeries and CABG procedures.
Patients recovering from CABG will typically spend 2-3 days in the ICU. The unit caters to a diverse patient population, including those requiring ICU-level care for cardiac procedures, open-heart surgeries directly from the operating room, vascular and thoracic surgeries, TAVR procedures, and STEMI interventions.
Responsibilities of the RN
Nurses will be responsible for the care of patients who require advanced medical support, including ventilator assistance, SWAN-GANZ catheter management, administration of vasopressors and inotropic drips, handling high-alert medications, intra-aortic balloon pump management, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), IMPELLA device care, and chest tube management.
The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:2 for standard ICU patients, with a ratio of 1:1 for high-acuity cases. There may be instances where the ratio could adjust to 1:3 based on staffing requirements and overall unit acuity.

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:
- An Associate's degree in Nursing
- A Bachelor's degree in Nursing within five years of hire
- For graduates from non-accredited nursing programs, at least one year of acute care experience or two years in a licensed healthcare role, along with successful completion of the NCLEX licensure examination.
Additionally, candidates must hold a current MI Registered Nurse (RN) license and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from recognized organizations. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is required within six months of hire. Specialty certification is highly recommended within two years, and one year of ICU nursing experience is preferred.
