About the Unit
This specialized unit comprises 16 beds dedicated to cardiovascular and cardiothoracic care. The primary focus is on patients recovering from open-heart surgeries, including CABG procedures. Patients typically spend 2-3 days in the ICU post-operation, receiving critical care for various cardiac interventions, including vascular and thoracic surgeries, TAVR procedures, and STEMI interventions.
Role Overview
As a Nursing Assistant, you will support licensed nursing staff in delivering direct patient care while maintaining a safe and organized environment within the nursing unit. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with personal care and safety needs of patients under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.
- Maintaining an orderly unit environment, ensuring adequate supplies and equipment are available for patient care.
- Facilitating patient admissions, discharges, and transfers in accordance with established protocols.
Patient Care Responsibilities
You will be involved in caring for patients requiring advanced medical support, including:
- Ventilator assistance
- Management of SWAN-GANZ catheters
- Administration of vasopressors and inotropic drips
- Monitoring high-alert medications
- Care for intra-aortic balloon pumps and CRRT
- Support for IMPELLA devices and chest tubes
Work Environment
The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:2 for standard ICU patients, with a 1:1 ratio for high-acuity cases. Occasionally, you may be required to care for 3 patients depending on staffing and unit needs.

Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Preferred experience in a hospital or nursing home setting
