Role Impact: The Community Development Specialist plays a pivotal role in crafting, executing, and overseeing community-focused programs and initiatives aimed at improving residents' quality of life and fostering active community participation. This position necessitates collaboration with local stakeholders, organizations, and governmental bodies to address community challenges, encourage sustainable growth, and facilitate meaningful change. The role reports directly to the Director of Community Development.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development and Oversight

  • Conceive, strategize, and implement community development initiatives.
  • Assess and evaluate program success, making necessary adjustments to achieve objectives.
  • Administer and oversee budgets for community initiatives, ensuring optimal resource allocation.

Community Involvement

  • Establish and nurture relationships with community leaders, local entities, and residents.
  • Organize and lead community forums, workshops, and events to gather feedback and encourage collaboration.
  • Act as a liaison between community members and external organizations.

Needs Assessment and Strategic Planning

  • Conduct evaluations to determine community needs, strengths, and growth opportunities.
  • Analyze trends and data to guide program development and strategic initiatives.
  • Create strategic plans and recommendations based on community feedback and assessment findings.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Compile and present reports on program developments, outcomes, and impacts to stakeholders.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of program activities, financial expenditures, and other relevant documentation.

Fundraising Initiatives

  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities to support community projects.
  • Oversee budgets and financial reporting for funded initiatives.

Training and Capacity Building

  • Offer training and support to community members and local organizations to enhance their engagement and leadership skills.
  • Encourage community leadership development and volunteer participation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Community Development, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related discipline; a master's degree is advantageous.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in community development, social services, or a similar field.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build and sustain relationships.
  • Strong organizational and project management capabilities.
  • Proficient in data analysis and report generation.
  • Familiarity with community development principles, practices, and resources.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Valid driver's license and dependable transportation.
  • Willingness to work evenings or weekends as required.
  • Capability to travel to community sites and meetings.
