Your Role: The Community Development Specialist plays a pivotal role in conceptualizing, executing, and overseeing community programs and initiatives designed to improve residents' quality of life and encourage community participation. This position necessitates collaboration with local stakeholders, organizations, and governmental bodies to address community needs, promote sustainable growth, and instigate positive transformations. The role reports directly to the Director of Community Development.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Design and Oversight

  • Develop, plan, and implement community development initiatives and programs.
  • Assess and evaluate program effectiveness, making adjustments as needed to achieve objectives.
  • Create and manage budgets for community initiatives, ensuring optimal resource utilization.

Community Interaction

  • Establish and nurture relationships with community leaders, local organizations, and residents.
  • Organize and lead community meetings, workshops, and events to gather feedback and encourage collaboration.
  • Act as a liaison between community members and external agencies or organizations.

Assessment and Strategic Planning

  • Conduct evaluations to identify community needs, strengths, and opportunities for growth.
  • Analyze data and trends to guide program development and strategic initiatives.
  • Formulate strategic plans and recommendations based on community feedback and assessment findings.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare and present reports on program progress, outcomes, and impacts to stakeholders.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of program activities, expenditures, and other pertinent documentation.

Funding and Resource Development

  • Identify funding sources to secure financial backing for community projects.
  • Oversee budgets and financial reporting for funded initiatives.

Training and Capacity Building

  • Provide training and support to community members and local organizations to enhance their engagement and leadership capabilities.
  • Encourage community leadership development and volunteer participation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Community Development, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related discipline; a master's degree is advantageous.
  • 3-5 years of experience in community development, social services, or a related field.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build and sustain relationships.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Proficient in data analysis and report preparation.
  • Familiarity with community development principles, practices, and resources.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Valid driver's license and dependable transportation.
  • Willingness to work evenings or weekends as required.
  • Ability to travel to community sites and meetings.
