Position Overview:

GFL Environmental is seeking a dedicated Regional Environmental Compliance Director to oversee our operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring adherence to environmental regulations across multiple facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for the comprehensive management of environmental compliance, ensuring alignment with both corporate policies and local, state, and federal regulations.


Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage all environmental compliance initiatives for regulated facilities, coordinating permitting, sampling, reporting, and recordkeeping activities.

• Oversee water management programs, including stormwater and wastewater permitting, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.

• Manage air quality programs, focusing on permitting and compliance with odor and methane regulations.

• Address waste management issues, collaborating with operations on special waste and non-conforming waste reporting.

• Conduct audits of facilities to ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies, coordinating corrective actions as necessary.


• Facilitate permitting project management, working with operations and regulatory agencies for new permits and renewals, and engaging in community outreach as needed.

• Handle noncompliance events, including notices of violation and follow-up reporting, to mitigate risks and ensure timely communication with leadership.


• Maintain accurate records through the EHS & Compliance tracking system, providing regular reports to corporate leadership as required.

• Stay informed on regulatory policy updates, acting as a subject matter expert for environmental compliance in the region, and communicating changes to relevant stakeholders.


• Collaborate with corporate EHS teams to identify compliance risks and implement necessary controls to manage operational and regulatory risks effectively.


• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, providing technical reviews and recommendations to enhance safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.


• Deliver training and support to operational teams, ensuring they are well-versed in compliance requirements and GFL programs.


Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or a related field, with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in environmental management and permitting.

• In-depth knowledge of EPA regulations and state-specific environmental laws.

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with environmental management software.


• Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with diverse stakeholders at all levels of the organization.


• Willingness to travel as required to fulfill job responsibilities.
